Find Out How Much Pres. Biden & VP Harris Paid In Taxes

The IRS's annual income tax deadline for most taxpayers was yesterday, April 18, 2023.

Now that the majority of Americans have filed their taxes for the 2022 year, some people are interested in the amount elected officials had to pay the federal tax agency. NPR reported on exactly how much money President Joe Biden (D) and Vice President Kamala Harris (D) owed on their 2022 tax returns.

In total, President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden earned $579,514 last year, with most of their income coming from the President's standard $400,000 government salary.

They paid a combined $169,820 in federal and state income taxes. The President and First Lady paid state taxes in both their home state of Delaware and Virginia, where she is an instructor at Northern Virginia Community College.

According to the couple's tax return, Dr. Biden was paid $82,335 for her work as a professor.

The Bidens reported $20,180 in charitable contributions including their home Catholic parish St. Joseph and the Beau Biden Foundation.

As for Vice President Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, their tax return showed total earnings of $456,918. The Vice President earned $219,171 in income from the Senate, who pays her for her role as President of the Senate.

Emhoff teaches at Georgetown University, where he was paid $169,665 as a professor in 2022.

The couple's charitable contributions were slightly more than the Bidens, totaling $23,00. They gave funds to various institutions, including DC Central Kitchen, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Third Baptist Church, and the Vice President's Alma Mater, Howard University.

It is customary for the President and Vice President's tax returns to be publicly released, though it is not a legal requirement.
