Warning!! Louis A. Cannizzaro is NOT a CPA (certified public accountant)!!! Despite his firm “CPA Advisory Group,” Mr. Cannizzaro is only a tax preparer. This is extremely misleading. In New Jersey anyone can become a tax preparer with just a $20 IRS PTIN – no education, no test, no license needed. A true CPA must complete 150 college credits, pass a 16 hour exam, complete a year of supervised training, and pass an ethics course I mistakenly assumed Lou was a CPA based on the firm’s name. Unfortunately that mistake cost me: * He made THREE major errors on my return (all later confirmed by an actual CPA). * It took nearly a month for them to even acknowledge my first email. * I had to research tax code myself and feed it back to them to prove their mistakes. * When I finally spoke to his daughter, Michelle (who was working on my return despite my appointment being with Lou), she became aggravated and hung up on me. * His office stalled me for five months and then refused to amend my return despite their mistakes. * Friends who referred me are also having problems with their return. Yes, his rates may be lower, but you truly “get what you pay for” – or worse, you pay more later to have a real CPA fix the errors. Check the NJ division of Consumer Affairs and CPAverify.org to confirm credentials. Don’t make the same mistake that I did.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with [Tax Firm Name] was absolutely horrible. Louis, the so-called 'owner,' is completely incapable of running a professional business. The entire process was disorganized, full of mistakes, and he seemed more interested in making excuses than actually getting things done right. But the worst part? His daughter, Michelle. Her rude attitude and complete lack of respect for clients were beyond shocking. She was dismissive, and condescending, and made it clear she had no interest in helping with my concerns. Her nasty demeanor and foul mouth were appalling—especially for someone representing a business. Do yourself a favor: avoid this place. They clearly don’t care about their clients at all.

I had one of the WORST experiences working with Lou and his daughter Michelle. Some of the most disrespectful, unprofessional people I’ve ever worked with. This office submitted my taxes late which led me to have to pay late fees. When addressing their mistake, there was no accountability. Honestly, I was taken aback by the disrespect they had for a paying client and someone whose family they worked with for years. Save yourself the time and stress.

we’ve been using Lou Cannizzaro as our accountant for well over 20 years both in the SI office and more recently in the Colts Neck office. We’ve never had anything but perfection with our tax returns and refunds. We trust him emphatically and thank him for his service every year.
