Social Security Tax For U.S. Citizens Residing Abroad

U.S. citizens residing abroad in certain countries are exempt from paying U.S. tax on their U.S Social Security benefits. This is important information for expatriates to know before filing taxes annually.

A U.S. citizen who is a resident of one of the following countries is exempt from U.S. tax on their U.S. Social Security benefits:

Canada       

Ireland       

Romania

Egypt           

Israel         

United Kingdom

Germany     

Italy (must also be a citizen of Italy)
