I strongly advise against using the tax preparer that I worked with previously. They made multiple errors on my tax return, which led to me losing thousands of dollars due to misinformation and mistakes on their part. Despite their promise to fix the issue, they never followed up with me, leaving me to handle the situation on my own. This caused me to miss the deadline and caused me significant stress. I recommend finding a trustworthy company with knowledgeable professionals who comprehensively reviews documents. Throughout the process, I had to ask for clarification on certain situations repeatedly and how they were being handled, but the preparer's lack of professionalism and communication was concerning. They did not seem to care and did not want to take the time to call, email, or video call me. It felt like I was pulling teeth to understand how my taxes were completed and why I saw certain things. I am now worried that she made mistakes on my previous years' taxes, and I have to have my new accountant review all of the documents, which could cost me thousands of dollars.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience working with Stephanie from Cross Border Specialized Tax. As a Canadian with Canadian capital gains working in the US, I've struggled with filing taxes through automated programs like Sprint Tax which is awful and the only program that does cross border taxes and other cross border accountants. The other options I tried before CBST ended up costing way more created a ton of stress wasted a ton of time. I had a complicated situation where I was taxed on RSU capital gains from Canada, and Stephanie was extremely patient and detail oriented during my filing process. Not only did she make sure my past filings were correct turns out they weren't and my past accountant made a costly mistake, she personally took time to call me and explain my tax situation and answer my questions in detail my past accountant charged me 200 for a 30 minute call and . She also provided really timely and relevant tax payment advice which would've saved me thousands in fees. I cannot recommend Stephanie and CBST enough - this is objectively the best option I found after 2 years of looking for cross border tax solutions.
