I worked with Jeff Dubow for more than 20 years and trusted him with both my personal and business tax preparation during that time. He also prepared our 2024 tax return and advised on tax implications related to the division of assets during my divorce. Unfortunately, my experience during that process was extremely disappointing. While my ex-spouse and I were separated and in the middle of a contentious divorce, Jeff continued advising both of us and ultimately prepared our joint tax return. In hindsight, I believe this created a situation where there was not enough clarity or transparency about how certain tax liabilities would be allocated between us. As a result, I ended up absorbing more than $50,000 in tax consequences that I believe should have been addressed differently during the asset division process. Trying to resolve the situation also required me to incur thousands of dollars in additional legal fees. I was also concerned about the level of documentation supporting certain reported business figures during that time. From my perspective, there appeared to be limited financial records supporting some of the reported numbers, which could present challenges if those filings were ever reviewed. After more than two decades as a client, the breakdown in communication and professionalism during this process was extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage others to carefully evaluate their options when selecting a tax preparer, particularly when dealing with complex matters such as divorce, asset division, or business accounting.
