My dad has Karen prepare his taxes and he has been satisfied with her services for the last 10 years. The first year she did my taxes I was satisfied. I'm active duty Navy and two of her sons also served She said she would wave the fee while I was serving. Great, right? The next year she charged me 30. I should've gotten that in writing, so whatever, that's on me, I guess. The next year her fee spiked to 50.Every year it became increasingly harder to work with her. In 2018 I sent her all of my documents in March. I was deployed from mid March to May and I only had basic internet. She needed me to sign something as well as that 50 fee. I was able to get my dad to give her the 50 for me but I wouldn't be able to send her the signed document until my deployment ended.After April 15th she seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. Her assistant sent me an email in late April saying they still need my signature and the 50. I explained to her assistant that I was sitting off the coast of North Korea and didn't have the capability to send her my signature and that my dad already paid for me. When I got back from deployment I reached out to Karen and her assistant letting them know I mailed the document. No response. I emailed again a week later. No response. Nothing happened. I kept emailing her every two or three weeks until I finally got my tax return in September.In 2019 I decided to use someone else who would actually work with me. Getting my tax return for the previous year was impossible. I emailed her several times and I got nothing. My new CPA was able to get all the information she needed without Karen. When everything was all said and done my new person said Karen missed 800 on my last return. As a single guy with no dependents, one W-2, and one Roth IRA how in the world do you miss 800. Seriously.
