We’ve been clients of MacTax for several years and had always been satisfied, but this year, things went completely off the rails. We sent in all of our tax documents well ahead of time and got confirmation that they received everything. But then… radio silence. No estimate of what we might owe, no info on our return, and no next steps. We had to follow up ourselves on tax day, only to be told our taxes hadn’t been filed and they would submit an extension. We agreed, assuming they’d follow up soon after. Weeks passed. No updates. We reached out again. Sara replied saying the “tax department” would contact us, which didn’t make sense since she’s always been the one to handle our taxes. After that, nothing. Another three weeks went by without a single word. Frustrated, I started looking at other options and saw a Yelp review from someone else who had almost the exact same experience — documents sent in, no follow-up, missed deadlines, vague promises, and total lack of communication. That’s when it clicked: this isn’t just us. This is a pattern. Whatever is happening at MacTax, it’s not just a one-off bad year, it’s a complete breakdown of client service and responsibility. This isn’t just poor communication. It borders on negligence. My partner had wanted to switch tax preparers earlier, but I stood by MacTax. Now I regret that. I’ve already reached out to the people I recommended and told them to steer clear. We’re officially moving on. MacTax has lost our trust and our business for good.
