I've worked with Dan for decades, primarily because of his deep knowledge of tax issues. He was good in the early years, but recently his service has gone so far downhill that I'm finally going elsewhere with my business.
I don't want to do it - finding a good accountant is a hassle - but based on long experience with Dan, I no longer trust him to provide us with professional-level accounting support.
Example - you need to discuss an important issue with Dan, your accountant. Want to get hold of him in a hurry? Good luck. He's virtually unreachable most of the time. Personal experience: emailing 4-5 times, multiple calls - NOTHING for more than a month! - this is my accountant, right? ("oh, Dan's taking the summer off. And you can't talk to anyone on staff because Dan gave them the month off.")
When you have important issues to discuss, is that the kind of responsive accounting help you're looking for? Then Dan's your man!
Finally, it's not just me: Over the years, I hooked Dan up with several of my closest friends, and my sister. Every one of them dropped Dan after working with him - for the same reasons I've cited.

Dan came highly recommended through an investment group, a recommendation I'm totally perplexed by. When I called in to inquire about whether or not they're taking on new clients, Ann answered the phone and was incredibly rude to me. She didn't bother asking me any questions except for who referred me, and when I didn't mention a specific name she became very suspicious of me and eventually declined to help me. A simple no would have sufficed. Instead she made me feel like my referral wasn't a valuable enough client to Dan to take me on as a paying client as well.

Dan is the best. I have known for 40+ years and as stated he is the best and a genuinely good, no great person. And a very good CPA.
