Politico: Now you know why your tax return might be delayed – “The IRS estimates that nearly 5 million unopened paper tax returns had piled up at the agency by mid-May amid the closure of its offices nationwide due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

CNBC: Going to be working remotely on a permanent basis going forward? Make sure you understand these key tax issues.

MarketWatch: As a business owner, are there reasons to wait and file your taxes after the July 15th deadline? Learn more.

The Hill: Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are “expressing interest in expanding a tax credit designed to help keep workers connected to their jobs, a sign that the idea could find its way into the next coronavirus relief package.”

Tax Foundation: Don’t forget: “There are some states in which first- and second-quarter estimated tax payments for tax year 2020 will come due before final tax year 2019 federal income tax forms and payments are due.” 

CNBC: Becoming self-employed can be appealing for a plethora of reasons, but make sure you understand what being your own boss will mean for your taxes.

Vox: What’s up with the housing market? Many house hunters were wondering whether “the coronavirus crisis might lead to a better deal on an upcoming purchase.” For now, at least, probably not.

Yahoo! Finance: According to a new watchdog report, the IRS “is failing to crack down on hundreds of thousands of high-income people who owe billions of dollars in taxes.”

Forbes: Don’t mistake your stimulus check for junk mail! Some are being sent by prepaid debit card that “arrive in a plain envelope from ‘Money Network Cardholder Services.’”

The Hill: The Treasury Department and IRS have released final regulations under which “certain tax-exempt groups will no longer be required to provide the names and addresses of major donors on annual returns filed with the IRS.”
