Trump Tax Fraud Trial to Officially Begin October 24

After a motion for dismissal was denied, a tax fraud trial involving the Trump Organization is set to begin on October 24, 2022.

Bloomberg shared details:

The Trump Organization and its longtime chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, will go on trial Oct. 24 in a tax fraud case, after a New York state judge rejected their request to dismiss the case against them.

Weisselberg and the Trump Organization were charged last year with conspiring to avoid income taxes by paying certain employees in unreported perks. Weisselberg, 74, was allegedly the main beneficiary of the scheme, receiving benefits including a free Manhattan luxury apartment and Mercedes-Benz cars for both him and his wife.

The upcoming trial is sure to be a media circus thanks to the press that has surrounded former President Donald Trump since he was officially sworn in as President of the Untied States on January 20, 2017.

The October 24 date is when jury selection will commence. The former POTUS is not a defendant in this case, but has been facing his own potential legal problems following the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida was recently the subject of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raid and, per Bloomberg, "he invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination on Wednesday to avoid answering deposition questions in a civil probe of his family real estate business by New York Attorney General Letitia James."

Following the raid, in a unanimous 3-0 vote, a New York State appeals court ruled that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can obtain Trump's personal tax records

The New York Times noted that the investigation into Mr. Weisselberg and the Trump Organization at large began in 2018.

The news outlet also confirmed that Justice Juan Merchan has already dismissed one count of criminal tax fraud against the Trump Organization and its affiliated payroll company. This means that 14 of the original 15 counts against the company -- and all of the charges against Mr. Weisselberg -- still stand.

In May 2022, the prosecution conceded that the count should be dismissed due to statute of limitations issues.

What do you think about the charges against the Trump Organization?
